What you need to support photos & videos

  • Good internet connectedness.
  • File sizes that can be backed up.  Your files won't be backed upward if they are:
    • Photos larger than 200 MB or 150 MP
    • Videos larger than 10 GB.
    • Items smaller than 256 10 256.
  • File types that can be backed upwardly.
    • Photos: .jpg, .heic, .png, .webp, .gif, and some RAW files.
    • Alive photos can be backed up if y'all use the Google Photos app on your iPhone or iPad.
    • Videos: .mpg, .mod, .mmv, .tod, .wmv, .asf, .avi, .divx, .mov, .m4v, .3gp, .3g2, .mp4, .m2t, .m2ts, .mts, and .mkv files.

If you try to support a file type not listed hither, information technology may not work with Google Photos.

Important: Your Google Business relationship storage is shared across multiple products similar Google Photos, Google Drive, and Gmail. If y'all have used all of your storage, y'all won't be able to back up new files.

There are 2 ways to back up your phone, camera, or storage card from your figurer:

  1. Install Backup and Sync.
  2. Upload photos from your browser.

Ready upward Google Drive for desktop

  1. On your figurer, download and install Google Drive for Desktop.
  2. Sign in to your Google Business relationship.
  3. Select the folders or pictures you want to back up and thenSupport to Google Photos.
  4. Select Done and thenSalve.

Of import:

  • If yous remove a photo or video from your calculator that y'all previously backed upwardly to Google Photos, it stays in Google Photos.
  • If you remove a photo or video from Google Photos, it isn't removed from Google Bulldoze or your estimator.
  • Uploads can exist slower and use more storage if you back upwards to both Google Photos and Google Drive. Unless yous need a second copy in Bulldoze, nosotros recommend yous support photos and videos to Google Photos.

If you already take Fill-in and Sync for Drive

Backup and Sync is now Google Drive for desktop.

If you already have Backup and Sync installed, y'all'll exist migrated to Google Drive for desktop.

To upgrade sooner, uninstall Fill-in and Sync and then follow the steps above to fix Google Drive for desktop.

Select a different upload size

Y'all can change the upload size for photos and videos backed upwards to Google Photos from your computer.

Important: You can't alter the upload size for files synced with Google Drive.

Back up your Apple Photo Library (Mac only)

If your computer runs macOS, you can back up your System Photo Library to Google Photos.

Tips:

  • If y'all have more than than one Apple tree Photos Library, but the System Photo Library will exist backed up. You can use Apple Photos to change the Arrangement Photo Library.
  • If your Apple Photo Library is synced with iCloud, all photos and videos in your library and cloud will be backed upward to Google Photos on macOS 10.15 and to a higher place.

Upload items to Google Photos from your browser

  1. On your computer, open photos.google.com.
  2. At the tiptop correct, click Upload and thenReckoner.
  3. Discover and select your photos.
  4. Click Open up.

You can besides drag photos from your computer to the album to upload them to Google Photos. If you drag a photo to a specific anthology, the photo will be uploaded to that album.
